Who We Are

Our Story

GOD HAS CALLED ME AND MY FAMILY TO MINISTER TO THE HELPLESS ORPHAN CHILDREN OF EL SALVADOR. When I was beaten down in my most desperate moments God gave me life! I am here as a testimony of His Father Heart and I submit to his work through me as I spoke these words: “If God would set me free I would tell everyone that I would meet about what God did for me” Samuel Okurut

Okurut Family

Samuel and Charity Okurut & Family are founders of The Father’s Heart Foundation which they started with the support of their church family in Canada, USA & El Salvador.

In 2008, Samuel & Charity started their mission projects in Uganda. In time they were engaged, married and as newlyweds sought to serve God together to mission fields which they had explored and felt God’s calling. It was in 2009 that they were directed by the Lord to the crime ridden neighborhoods of El Salvador. The focus was eventually clear as they traveled to various communities serving basic needs and spreading the gospel. Through the leading of the Lord in 2010 the project was approved for the development of several family homes on an acreage in rural Quetzaltepeque, El Salvador and thus began the vision for the Father’s Heart Village. Over the following years, they acquired a piece of property and began to build security walls, a training center and aquaponic and horticultural center. Throughout the time they supported their community with fellowship, counseling, outreach, education, and special family needs and in turn the community came forward and blessed the construction project with many donations of time, funding and materials. Together with support from their church communities and donors of El Salvador, Canada and USA they were well underway to build a 3 story multi-unit housing and community center. Through miracles of provision the foundation was constructed in 2020 while the world was shutting down due to pandemic lockdown orders. Reluctantly the project was halted and Samuel and Charity and family returned to Canada. The project lay undisturbed for 4 years, except for the initial looting 2 weeks after they left. A period of hiatus from El Salvador, but not from the mission field. They continued to serve where God called them including a return visit to Uganda, to Samuel’s home village and land where Samuel grew up and first heard God’s calling. While organizing to adopt his brother’s children, after a tragic accidental death of his brother, they shone the light of Jesus to the lives of their neighbors and relatives and setup a micro financing ministry to help women entrepreneurs with opportunity to support themselves. The ministry continues remotely managed by Samuel as a new chapter begins for the continuation of the Father’s Heart Village development in El Salvador. The newly appointed Board of Directors have merged and united around the initial vision for the Village and enthusiastically embrace the continuation of the work of the Foundation. The Father’s Heart Village Project is a light in the community and especially brilliant for the young children that are orphaned. The vision of “Families building families” by taking in the unloved and abandoned children together in a Christ-centered sustainable community.

Both Samuel and Charity have a background in Christ-Centered community building & leadership, NPO leadership, NPO and small business finances, construction project management, structure building & building finishing, church and school planting and sustainable horticulture projects. A skill set that is most definitely required for the Village model. They continue to lead the project and ministry efforts both on-site and remotely.

In the words of Samuel, the project is God’s. He will provide and see that His Project succeeds. We are the hands and feet to be directed by Him only.
